THE POCKET’S VOLLEYBALL RULES

 

v    Everyone must be 21 years of age & have a state issued photo ID to prove it.

v    No beverage or food brought on to the Pocket’s property.

v    Children must be with their parent and be supervised.

v    No pets allowed on the Pocket’s property.

 

v    Absolutely no contact with the net with any part of the body while the ball is in play.  This will be a violation.

 

v    Blocking over the net is legal, providing you do not interfere with a set, and the opposing player has the first opportunity to strike the ball.

 

v    There will be no blocking or spiking of the serves.

 

v    A block is not considered one of the three hits.

 

v    A ball may be spiked only if the ball is in the neutral zone, (area directly above the net), or while on your own side of the net.

 

v    On a spike your hand may follow through over the net as long as there is no contact with the net.

 

v    There is no boundary line under the net, however there can be no interference with the play of the ball.

 

v    Backrow players may not block or spike within 10 feet of the net.

 

v    Contact anywhere on the body will be considered a legal hit.  Any combination of arms, legs, chest, head, etc. is an illegal double hit, except on the first hit of the three hits allowed.  However, every contact must always be clean and not held, lifted, pushed, caught, carried or thrown.  The ball cannot roll or come to rest on any part of a players body.

 

v    The ball must always pass between the net antennas.  Contact with the pole is out.

 

v    If the ball hits the net on the serve, the serve is no good.

 

v    The service zone is behind the end rope and between the extension of the side ropes.  It extends in depth to the railroad tie.  When serving, server must verbally cite the score and may not leave the service zone and both feet must be in the service zone when serving the ball.

 

v    Any contact of the rope is considered in.

 

v    Game Format: Play 3 games to 21 points, win by 2 points (25 point cap).  Rally Scoring System.

 

v    A player may be added in the middle of a game as long as your team has possession of the ball.  All players must enter in the center back position.  If you are rotating players they must also enter in the center back position when your team rotates.

 

v    In Co-Ed Play:  If a team contacts the ball more than one time during offensive action, one of the contacts must be by a female player, but there is no restriction that prevents all three hits being made by female players. 

 

v    In Co-Ed Play:  Teams may consist of 2 girls & 2 guys, 3 girls & 2 guys, 3 girls & 3 guys or 4 girls & 2 guys.

 

v    A team must consist of a least 4 or more players in order to start game play.

 

v    Any ‘B’ team can have no more than one ‘A’ player on the court at any given time.  Any ‘C’ team can have no more than one ‘B’ player on the court at any given time.  Players ability to be judged by league coordinators.

 

v    No player may play for more than one team on any given night.  Once a player plays for another team on the same night they can not return to the previous team.

 

v    All players must be on the roster in the first half of the season, and have played twice prior to all play-offs.

 

v    Not starting a match on time is a 1 game forfeit, however there will be a 20 minute grace before forfeiting a complete match.

 

v    Any team that forfeits a total of 2 matches will be dropped from the leagues.

 

v    No refs will be used, therefore your team will make calls on the honor system.  If your teams disagree about a call replay the point.  If there are any questions or problems Brenda or Terry will be the final ruling.

 

v    Team captains are responsible for writing down the scores after each game and both captains must check the score sheet each night directly after the match.
